Eco-Consciousness

As an artist, my most influential muses come from the natural world. I have always had a deep affinity for nature and the creatures found there. WillowsWitchArt is dedicated to being as eco-conscious as possible. This means that I intend to take specific steps to not only offset my carbon footprint, but hopefully, eventually, be a net good for the natural world.

Steps I intend to take to work towards being eco-friendly include:

Using Eco Friendly Materials

When creating products I will attempt to factor in my materials and processes beforehand. This step applies not only to my products, but also the packaging I use. In my effort to make as small an impact as possible, I will use recycled materials as often as it is feasible. Examples of this include reusing old packaging I have previously received, for shipping orders, using recycled materials such as polyester and cotton, for shirts and sourcing recycled polymer clay for my handmade pins. (See recycling guide for more info).

Sourcing From local Businesses To Reduce Shipping Impacts

WillowsWitchArt intends to use local businesses for manufacturing whenever possible. This not only cuts down on carbon emissions but also has the added benefit of helping to support the local economy.

Donating/Fundraising

WillowsWitchArt intends to donate to and fundraise for conservation and rescue projects as often as possible. As of 2024 we have already donated 200 dollars to reputable charities like Oceans conservancy. We hope to work with many more charities in the future. (You can find a list of fantastic charities here)!

Education

Currently, as a small business fundraising and donating are quite difficult. However, here at WillowsWitchArt we don’t let that slow us down. There are lots of ways to help, one of the biggest being education. WillowsWitchArt strives to create art that not only looks cute, but often has some type of educational benefit. For example creating a series of cute ocean themed pins that tell you about the wonderful animals living there, or creating a how to care for your hamster guide that also talks about wild hamsters and the conservation efforts happening around them. Besides my art, there is also my blog, which often talks about various eco-topics such as charities I like, proper recycling practices, and just interesting facts about plants and animals.

Challenges

WillowsWitchArt, though very dedicated to ethical practices and eco-consciousness is an extremely small shop and therefore, some concessions have to occasionally be made to keep the lights on. American manufacturers can be quite expensive and also have limitations on the types of products they are able to make. This means that I will sometimes need to work with out of state’s manufacturers and use materials that are not always the best for the environment.

Overall as WilloWitchArt grows our ability to make a substantial impact will grow as well. I hope that WillowsWitchArt will be able give back to the amazing community that continues to inspire my art.
